½վ and Singapore University of Technology and Design sign MoU on 6G Technology Research Collaboration

½վ announced on 26th June that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) for collaboration on 6G technology research. The MoU signing event took place during the 20th anniversary celebration of ½վ Singapore.

During the event, in a pre-recorded statement, ½վ Chairman, MK Tsai, committed S$500 million investment in Singapore over the next five years. Mr. Joe Chen, ½վ President & COO, followed with a speech, which included the following statement,

The signing of the MoU was witnessed by 400 ½վ employees and 55 VIPs, including the Chairman of EDB, officials from the Taipei Representative Office, the President of SUTD, senior executives from A*STAR and its research institutes, university professors, and esteemed business partners of ½վ

Following the MoU signing, Prof. Phoon Kok Kwang stated, “This partnership between SUTD and ½վ is important for Singapore’s effort to build communications and connectivity capabilities, especially in 6G. This MoU is our first step to build a stronger relationship and we look forward to a bigger presence of ½վ in Singapore for many more years to come.”

The MoU marks the first time ½վ will set up an advanced wireless technology collaboration in Singapore, as well as the first 6G R&D technology investment in the country. The research will be part of Singapore’s national 6G program, called the Future Communications R&D Program (FCP) and led by SUTD Prof. Tony Quek. Despite being focused on 6G technologies, the four-year program will also strengthen Singapore’s 5G ecosystem and accelerate the transition to future communication technologies. ½վ has been actively engaging in global 6G technology research initiatives and is preparing for 6G standardization within the 3GPP framework, which is due to start in 2025. This collaboration will help the Singapore research community strengthen its involvement in 6G standardization activities, and the global 6G ecosystem.
